IT should be noted that OpenID is nowinclusive of - LID (lightweight identity), Yadis (XRDS discovery Protocol), XRI/i-names SSO, SXIP and its way of signing one into an identity provider, and the first iteration of OpenID. I would invite you to the Internet Identity Workshop if you want to really wrap your head around the latest in this topic area.
