The gameplay is either entirely brilliant or totally unserious. But claiming bits & pieces of the earth turns out to be immediately addictive, anyhow...
It somehow holds a promise that participants will receive many more clues, clarifying the concept. Calling it a game may be an insult to John Lu, founder of the company behind Claim the Earth, who says that it's a 3D journalism platform, and explains that this environment is powered with data from Google Map, translation services (also from Google), blogging from Yahoo, and transactions from eBay.
